The church has a rich and long established choral tradition which we seek to cherish and develop. Our aim is to enhance the sung worship of the church, serving to the best of our ability as a response and as an offering to God.
The choir sings at the 9.30am Parish Communion as well as special services and events.
Compline is sung in Lent. Evensong is sung at 4.00pm on Greater Festivals and at other times. We sing a wide and stimulating repertory ranging from Allegri Miserere to Stanford in C, from Mass for Two Choirs and Two Organs Bielby to Look at the world Rutter. For further details see our monthly music lists.
We welcome extra singers who augment the choir for Sunday Evensongs which are part of our imaginative Sundays at 4 series. The series has included 3 Gregorian Chant afternoons (for Pentecost, Trinity and Corpus Christi), Songs of Praise (for the Platinum Jubilee, Vaughan Williams 150th aniversary and Holy Trinity) and Organ Meditations. Every year there is music and readings at the Advent, Christmas and Epiphany Carol Services and on Passion Sunday. To mark International Women’s Day we sing Evensong with music solely by female composers.
The choir is an enthusiastic mixed voice and mixed age group, and we love to welcome new members. We meet to rehearse every Friday from 7.15pm to 8.45pm, and half an hour before each service.
Visiting choirs are encouraged to sing Evensong at KPC and enjoy making music in one of the widest churches in England. Please contact the Director of Music.
