The Kendal Choristers was formed in January 2022 to encourage youngsters to become part of the church family, to develop their voices, and to have fun. Local primary schools are visited and the children are taught songs in assembly. We look for children who love singing, there is no audition, and there is no cost to parents. Over the last three years over 30 children have benefitted from this unique musical training. Currently we have 15 choristers aged 6 to 13. We have a Pizza Party every term and encourage choristers to go to the annual Morland Choristers’ Camp. We have regular Come and be a Chorister recruitment drives.
Choristers sing at special Sunday services in church, sometimes with the adult choir and sometimes at Evensong on their own. We sing Evensong on the second Friday of the month. We sing a wide variety of traditional and contemporary music, including pieces arranged or composed by Jonathan Bielby, our Musical Director. We have featured in the annual NSPCC Carols by Candlelight and Bishop Rob’s Christmas message. We have sung carols at the Birdcage for Christians Together in Kendal and entertained the residents of Gilling Reane Nursing Home. We have been invited to sing Evensong at Flookburgh PC and at St. Mary’s Church, Windermere.
