Prayer for Baptism or for Children
“Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Matthew 10.14
Planting a Garden
First, plant five rows of Peas:
Patience, Promptness, Preparation. Perseverance, Purity.
Next, plant three rows of Squash:
Squash gossip, Squash criticism, Squash indifference.
Then plant five rows of Lettuce:
Let us be faithful, Let us be unselfish,
Let us be loyal, Let us be true to obligations,
Let us love one another.
And no garden is complete without turnips:
Turn up for important meetings, Turn up with a smile,
Turn up with good ideas,
Turn up with determination to make everything worthwhile!
For Baptism
May God who has received you by baptism into his Church,
pour upon you the riches of his grace,
that within the company of Christ’s pilgrim people
you may daily be renewed by his anointing Spirit,
and come to the inheritance of the saints in glory.
A Prayer to be said by or with a young person:
For those who are dear to me
I give thanks.
For those who support me
I give thanks.
For those who challenge me
I give thanks.
For those who love me
I give thanks.
For those I love
I give thanks.
Teach me thanksgiving in all that I do,
teach me thanksgiving for all gifts from You.
For a child’s future:
Guardian of life –
preserve new life,
infuse with strength,
surround with love,
protect from harm,
open doors of grace
for this little one.
Hold hands, we pray
and walk together day by day
in the avenues of life.
